Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how BirdNote ("we", "us", the "app") handles information when you use our bird sound identifier app and website. We built BirdNote to respect your privacy and collect as little data as possible.

Information we collect

  • Audio & photos you submit. When you identify a bird, the app processes the recording or image to return a match. Recordings and photos are used to perform the identification and are not sold.
  • Microphone, camera & photo access. The app requests these permissions only to capture the sound or image you choose to identify. You can revoke them anytime in your device settings.
  • Your saved list. Birds you save are stored to power your personal life list.
  • Usage & diagnostics. We may collect anonymised analytics and crash data to improve the app.

How we use information

We use the information above to provide bird identification, save your list, process optional purchases, and improve the app's accuracy and stability. We do not sell your personal data.

Third-party services

We may use trusted third parties for identification processing, analytics, and in-app purchases (including Apple). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.

Subscriptions & purchases

Optional in-app purchases are processed by Apple through your App Store account. We do not receive or store your full payment details.

Your choices

You can revoke microphone, camera, and photo permissions at any time in your device settings, delete saved birds within the app, and contact us to request deletion of associated data.

Children

BirdNote is rated suitable for ages 4+ and is not directed at collecting personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
