Terms of Use

Last updated: 14 June 2026

By downloading or using BirdNote (the "app") or this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Use of the app

BirdNote provides bird identification by sound and photo and a reference field guide for personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to misuse the service, attempt to disrupt it, or use it in violation of any applicable law.

Identification accuracy

Bird identifications are provided as suggestions with a confidence score and may not always be correct. Do not rely on the app where misidentification could cause harm. Always use your own judgement, especially regarding protected or sensitive species.

Subscriptions & purchases

The app is free to download and includes optional in-app purchases and subscriptions. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.

Intellectual property

The app, its content, and branding are owned by BirdNote or its licensors. Bird photographs on this website are used under public-domain or Creative Commons licences via Wikimedia Commons and remain the property of their respective authors.

Disclaimer & liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
